Then, quite out of nowhere, lightning slashed into the ranks of the guards,
resulting in instant panic among the civilian crowd. Women screamed. Strong men
fainted. And above it all rose the cruel laughter of the escaping sorceress.

Elemental
AWAKENED: The Elemental talent allows the sorcerer
to deal with the elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water. This talent might be
awakened by summoning fire on a cold night or a spring of water in the heat of
the desert. Melting metals, summoning walls of flame or turning water into ice
are other effects the Awakened Sorcerer cannot control.
Elemental Scars usually involve transmutation into
an element or the attraction or repelling of an element, though anything else can
be possible.
INITIATE: The key word of the Initiate Sorcerer is DETECT
The Initiate Sorcerer can perceive the magical properties of the elements of Earth,
Air, Fire and Water as well as any patterns or movements within; this is often useful
for locating mineral deposits as well as predicting weather or where a firestorm
will head or where lightning will strike. He may also identify the properties of
non-magical items, such as conductivity, cohesion, strength, malleability, temperature.
APPRENTICE: The key word of the Apprentice Sorcerer is AFFECT
The Apprentice can begin to manipulate existing elements by changing their shape
or their movement... She can also increase or decrease the element, which becomes
more difficult the greater the change being attempted. She may begin to alter the
properties of non-magical items, such as making metal more or less conductive or
slightly stronger or more malleable. She may affect the temperature of a particular
object or a small area of space by a few degrees.
MAGE: The key word of the Mage Sorcerer is CREATE
The Mage can create elements out of nothing and can manipulate the properties of
those elements--for instance, make fire that has no heat yet still burns, or air
that is solid. He can make Iron light, steel transparent, or gold non-malleable.
He can create a breeze where there was none, change the temperature in a localized
area, even alter the melting and boiling points or particular substances.
ADEPT: The key word of the Adept Sorcerer is CONTROL
The mage can manipulate massive amounts of elements and can create horrific effects.
In addition, he can combine elements to create strange effects. Non-magical substances
are his playthings; he may make a steel sword into a sword made of diamond or glass,
though he can never change the essential shape of the item as that is the province
of the Form mage.
LOST ABILITIES: In ancient times, it is believed
that the known four elements were tied into a Fifth Element: Life. This metaphorical
element was an invocation of all the elements one found within a living being,
enabling healing or turning oneself into a being composed entirely of a single
element. This was somehow related to Form and Form's lost abilities, but no one
now knows how.
Hazards of Elemental Magic:
It's vital to understand that elements that are summoned come from somewhere.
Additionally, the lower the level of the caster, the closer the source will be.
This is important to know if one is trying to summon water in a desert, for example.
In that case, the water is drawn from local foliage, underground springs, or even
lifeforms that are close by. The water will be taken from the path of least resistance
first, which could prove disastrous.
The higher level the sorcerer, the farther away
he can reach out to draw the elements and the more he is able to collect/control/change
them. At high levels, the caster usually draws from the elemental planes instead of
his/her surroundings. It's up to the caster to determine whether it's best to take
the energy from local sources or from a distance. At low levels, an elementalist
has limited control in this regard.
It is possible to do serious damage to a person by drawing the water from his body,
but only high level sorcerers have enough control and are quick enough to do this
intentionally.
